INTRODUCING THE RED COLOUR

The colour red was introduced and the children made a red balloon by finger painting. Finger painting is a mode to help children get familiar with the colour 'red', to help children gain dexterity in fine muscles and the finesse to print within a given area.
Children also learnt to say 2 sentences about themselves:
I am ______. (name)
I am a girl/boy.
Knowing about oneself and having one's own identity is of prime importance.

In the process they get to learn the vocabulary- balloon, red, finger, dip, drawing sheet, poster colour, girl, boy.

Skills development

Play is crucial to the development of children's gross and fine motor skills as well as various other skills like listening, speaking, reading, etc. Through play, children practice and perfect control and coordination of large body movements, as well as small movements of hands and fingers.
Some of the activities to develop these skills are:

1. MOVE AND FREEZE DANCE
An excellent dance warm up to start the day with or to be used in between the activities to break the monotony. A dance that the kids enjoy doing in class helps them develop their listening skills. It also helps in learning proper coordination and developing gross motor skills.

2. WALK THE LINE
This tactile game teaches the child to concentrate and to follow the instructions, helps them to maintain their balance by walking on the rope. Helps the young minds understand the visual and auditory signals. It also develops gross motor skills.

3. LISTEN AND SING ALONG
Everyone would love singing this melodious rhyme. It develops listening skills. This enchanting rhyme teaches phonetic sounds. It also enhances visual and auditory skills. The captivating colourful pictures and the letter of the alphabet give them idea of association of letters with the pictures which would also help them develop reading skills.

4. STRINGING BEADS
A fine muscular activity using age appropriate props to bring about multifaceted skill development of the nascent minds. Children learn visual skills, colour combinations, sequencing skills apart from their fine muscular development. Girls love making jewellery out of beads for themselves. Friendship bands out of smaller beads is an excellent idea to get along with the fellow students.

5. PAW GAME
An interdisciplinary gross motor activity that involves EVS, enhances auditory skills. Children learn animal sounds, to hop and jump, to slither like animals.

6. SENSORY ACTIVITY
Using wheat flour, a non toxic sensory material is given to the kids to mess up and make patterns, feel the texture and develop their fine muscles. This is used to teach them Pre- Writing skills, proper hand movement, shapes and formation of letters of the alphabets.
